William and Phebe Denton,Plumlee are my great X5 grandparents.I have traced Phebe's ,Denton family back toRichard Denton b 1517 and his wife Gennette Banyster b 1527 both were born in Halifax Yorkshire England. Their first son Was Christened "Sir Richard Denton" Sept 17,1557, shortly after his birth.He was born in Worely Halifax Yorkshire England.He diedDec 9,1619 in Hertferdshire England. Sir Richard married Susan Sibella and had a son "Rev Richard DentonII b Apr 5,1603 d 1662.He married Ruth Tileston then later in 1612 he married Helen Windlebank she was born abt 1588. They were married in Surrey England. He had a son Samuel Denton b May 29,1631 Halifax Yorkshire England. Rev. Richard Denton along with four of his sons migrated to America.Samuel married Mary Smith in 1656,Mary was born July 20,1630Dorchester Sulfolk Co. VA? and died March 15,1713 in Hempstead Queens Co. NY. Samuel died March 20,1713 in Hempstead Queens Co.NY Their son Abraham Denton Sr. b 1675 Hempstead NY. d 1729 in Orange Co. NY. married Martha Thorne 1699 in Orange Co. NY. she was b? d.1730.
Their son Abraham Denton Jr. was born btw 1700 and 1705 Hempstead NY married Mary Odell abt 1725.(They had five children) Their daughter,Phebe Denton was born about 1743 she married William Plumlee b.abt 1742. They had one son John Plumlee b abt 1767 inVA. he married Elizabeth Neal abt 1790 in Burke Co. NC. I have no further info on Elizabeth. (They had six children)
Their son,Archibald b. abt 1794 NC. d. March 21,1879 in Clay Co. TN. burial in the Archibald Plumlee Cemetary,Pine Hill,Clay Co. TN. He married Ruth Odle DEC.25,1817 in Jackson Co.TN. she was b. abt 1801 in KY. she died sometime after 1881 and is buried next to Archibald. (They had twelve children)
Their son,Stephen Plumlee b. abt. 1838 in Jackson Co.TN. married Elizabeth Haney b. abt.1840 in TN. Their daughter, Lydia R. Plumlee (my great grandmother) b. Feb,1883 in Newton Co. Arkansas,(her mother,Elizabeth) died in the fall of 1883 Lydia was approx 8 or 9 months old. Lydia married James Virgil McAlpin ( my great grandfather)b.Sept 1881 in Clay Co.TN.They were married Feb 2.1902 Lydia died in May 1907. They had three children.
Docia Elma McAlpin b. Jan.19,1903 in Clay Co. TN. Herbert V. McAlpin b.1904 Clay Co. TN. Hattie Ann McAlpin ( my grandmother,born Nov.30 1906 d. Mar 14,1968 Indianapolis IN.(Lydia died six months after Hattie Ann was born. She was preparing dinner and her dress caught fire.She burned to death trying to run to the stream beside their home). Hattie Ann McAlpin married Clure Albert Strong b abt 1904 in Clay Co. TN. Clure's parents were Caley Strong and Sarah Kathrine Spear,Strong. When I was young I remember hearingstories that my grandfather was Cherokee Indian. Hattie Ann and Clure Strong had nine children,
Junior Strong died around the age of 7 after falling off the roof of the chicken coupe and injuring his back. Tompkinsville KY.
Ray Strong died of massive heart attack Mothers Day 1976. Tompkinsville KY. he was married to Novia? they had several children.
