Larry, Most of what I know of the McLEMORE family comes from the book by James McLEMORE III, especially concerning the early American generations.Jim was working on the revised and expanded second edition but he did not get it finished before he died. Some are wanting to continue the effort in his honor and memory and so we are trying to get all the McLEMORE family identified and sorted out from the immigrants to about the Civil War or about 1850 or so.
I am descended from Archibald b.1787 who is supposed to be from John d.1844 Rev Vet.John is reportedly the son of Burwell as you have noted. This has become a mystery of sorts.
There is an ongoing DNA study of the McLEMORE family.(google McLEMORE MORRISON)The original reason for the study is to confirm the close relationship between the immigrants Abraham and James. There are a dozen or so results so far in the database. The mystery is that most of those so far have nearly identical DNA matches, both from descendants of Abraham and James EXCEPT for the three that are descended from John b.1698, the son of James.John b.1698, the only son not receiving property at the death of James, was apparently not a blood son of James. The DNA is a total mis-match.Burwell b.1721 is supposed to be a descendant of this John but so far, no direct descendant of Burwell has been entered. But there is a descendant of Archibald b.1787 who matches all the others and does NOT match that of John b.1698.
So, at this point, it appears that the immigrants James and Abraham are closely related, likely brothers. Also it seems that John the son of immigrant James was taken in, adopted, or somehow or another not the natural son of James. He may have been a stepson or who knows. This then allows for the descendants of this John to really tie in to his line.
What we really need is a PROVEN descendant of John d.1844 to get tested.I have no actual proof that my Archibald b.1787 is his son.Hopefully someone of the line of William that he lived with, or your Green, or some proven descendant will participate and identify his line. And hopefully, a proven descendant of Burwell b.1721 will also get involved to confirm his being of the line of John.
I should mention that these DNA tests are Y-chromosome based and so only males can participate.Typically then the entries are of men named McLEMORE.
Do you know of any male named McLEMORE that can PROVE a connection to John d.1844?Did John leave any will or probate information that would prove his children?
By the way, I believe that my Archibald is in fact a descendant of Abraham anyway.I base this on the naming patterns in the family, especially the use of the name Young and Abraham.I don't expect to find Young as a name in any of the line of James. Both lines could certainly Atkins. If he is of Abraham's line AND if he is brother to Green, William, Nancy, and the rest, AND if they are sons of John d.1844, then John COULD be a son of Young b.1726, son of Abraham.I say that since the will of Young b.1726 names mostly just the family of daughter Sukey, and the will of his brother Atkins specifically names all of his children as far as anyone can tell.
Let me know if you can add anything to all of this. I may try to contact you in the future in any regard to identify the family of Green McLEMORE down to the middle of the 1800's for this project.
