I am reseaching the history of Clifton Presbyterian Church in Greene County, Ohio, for our church bicentennial (1811-2011).One of our early pastors was Rev. Andrew W. Poage.
The Reverend, his wife Jane, and four of their six children are buried at our church in the old cemetery. In Fall 2008, Ohio was hit by the remnants of a hurricane.A tree fell on the Poage family's plot and broke many of the tombstones. The board of the cemetery has been saving money to have the stones restored, and I am pleased to report that work began today. His was the largest monument in the cemetery.
As I read the old histories of our church, it is clear that Reverend Poage was a well-loved leader. During his ministry (1819-1840), the church outgrew two meeting houses.I would love to share my information with his descendants, although I realize many of you may know much more than I already!
Our congregation would be honored if a descendant of Reverend Poage who is a minister would come and preach for us.Anyone interested may write to me at this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If this information would prove helpful, I can supply more from my reasearch. Anything that any of you could tell me about Reverend Poage's family would be greatly appreciated!
