According to a document in the Georgia Archives online:
C.A. Poage, born 1830, applied for a Confederate widow's pension in Troup County.
Her husband John L. Poage served in company D, 3rd regiment(squadron), Cavalry as a Confederate volunteer, enlisted April 1862. He was captured around September 1863 and died in a federal prison near Chicago on Dec 8 or 9, 1864 of "chronic diarrhea" (probably dysentery).
W.J. Speer of Atlanta, GA was appointed power of attorney to receive Mrs. Poage's pension funds January 31, 1894.
