reply.... I am reminded of an old saying. It is a wise man who knows his own father.
To accept family history without verifaction is fraught with problems. Stories my mother told me, and believed, when checked out were incorrect as to persons involved, places and dates. And that is just one generation ago. How can families remember facts 200 years ago? I know many people who have made assumptions that their name is associated with 'someone famous' just because 'granny' said so.
A genealogist always check the sources to confirm the facts or we have a scenario where 'ficticious' events are copied on and on and on.
