Iwrote.... Stories my mother told me, and believed, when checked out were incorrect as to persons involved, places and dates.
Your reply.... Of course, I am not the one calling my own parents liers!! if you can't believe your own parents, ......
My reply You missed the point. I never said she lied, or was a liar, but that she merely reported what she believed was true [as you have with your own family].
My point was that she was mistaken, because she was only repeating what she had heard and been told, and had never bothered to verify the facts.
That leads us to the start of this topic. I never intended to hurt your feelings, [or bash you as you call it] I feel you over reacted as I merely asked what sources you had used and had you check them against reliable documents.
Surely that is a reasonable question and not one to get all steamed up about. Many people contact me and ask where 'such and such' came from and I am more that happy ot oblige. Or I say that I have no proof.
All you had to do was to say at the start that it was 'family legend' and things culled from web sites.
Just as a farewell I would love to know where the SMITH was supposed to come from in Thomas Smith Rolfe.
He was just Thomas Rolfe according to all the records I have read.
