JH> Can anyone supply the ORIGINAL source to the oft quoted JH> visit of Thomas to his 'Aunt Cleopatre'?
Here is what I have about this in my notes ...
About 1641 matters became so bad between the Whites & Indians, Chief Opechancanough was induced to agree upon a line being established which neither White nor Indian, excepting truce-bearers, should cross under penalty of being shot on sight. To insure strict obedience to the compact a law was passed at VA,Jamestown imposing a heavy penalty on any of the people crossing the line without a special permit from the Commissioner's Council & the General Court.
1641/12/17 The Council record shows that: "Thomas WOLFE petitions the Governor to let him see Opechankeno to whom he is allied & Cleopatra, his mother's sister" (his grand-uncle & aunt).
