A Challenge ………What a thought Perhaps not a duel at dawn, my sword is too rusty, you just can't get the staff these days.
Anyway from your list of names is very difficult to make observations as there are no dates or places. In the words of the song 'but its just a list, it doesn't MEAN anything'
However you might like to ponder on this fact. Why might not your ancestor be mentioned in the will, when even a nephew gets an inheritance? Is she in fact a daughter? Without dates / places I can't begin to verify. The Will of John Bolling, Jr., With Codicil may be found in the Chesterfield County Will Book No. 1, pages 262-268. Copied from a transcript of February 1, 1975 by T.G. Hobbs, Jr. The will was signed and witnessed on September 4, 1749. The codicil was signed and witnessed on September 4, 1757. The names mentioned as heirs in the will and codicil are the following: 1. "my loving wife Elizabeth Bolling" 2. "my Son Thomas Bolling" 3. "my Son John Bolling" 4. "my Son Robert Bolling" 5. "my Son Edward Bolling" 6. "my Daughter Mary Bolling" 7. "my Daughter Sarah Bolling" 8. "my Son Archibald Bolling" 9. "my nephew Bolling Eldridge" 10. "my Friend John Childers" 11. "my Friend Richard Taylor" 12. "my Daughter Anne" There are very detailed and precise provisions covering the division of John Bolling's property between each of the twelve heirs listed above.
If anyone has access to the Ancestry.com site [fee payable] then checking the records below for Bolling would be a boon. Court, Land, Probate Records 25 matches Virginia County Records, Volume VII 13 Prince William County, Virginia Wills, Part 2, 1734-1920 3 Prince William County, Virginia Wills, Part 1, 1734-1925 3 Virginia Land, Marriage, and Probate Records, 1639-1850 3 Virginia County Records, Volume VI 3
I have checked the IGI, over 1000 entries for Bolling and can only find a few of a late date which I would accept as they are from a parish register. Can't find anything at all your ancestor Jane Bolling married to William Hopkins. It is not to say that ALL the patron entries submitted are false, but as I am unable to check them I would not accept this information until they have been verified as from a document source.
John Rolfe & Pocahontas- This union is verifiable by extant documents written during their lifetime, as is the birth of their son Thomas 1615
Thomas Rolfe & Jane Poythress Her surname name is speculation and I have never seen any documented proof and no marriage or reference to it. Thomas arrived in VA 1635 but records to 1658 do not mention a wife.
Jane Rolfe & Robert Bolling IF Thomas married after 1658 she would be 17 Marriage said to be 1675 -6
John Bolling & Mary Kennon John said to be born Jan 1677 [ie conceived March 1676]
John Bolling & Elizabeth Blair John born Jan 1700 Married? Aug 1728 He died aged 29 leaving a large and young family [as per will]
Jane Bolling and William Hopkins I am not convinced she is the child of John and Elizabeth; she would have still been a child at her father's death, Can you supply any data which would prove the relationship?
So no Challenge, just a few observations for your perusal.
