There is a Read family that comes into the Rolfe family in this manner.Thomas Rolfe of NC.had as a last wife, Mary Grimes. She was raising a nephew who is mentioned in this Rolfe's will. Rolfe will give him some land, if he stays with a certain relative. This is mentioned in the 1985 Straton and Moore Article.
Mary Grimes had a sister married to an early govenor of NC, Governor Reid. The wife's first name may have been Christian, but for certain the couple's oldest son, was named Christian.Neither of the parents were still living.
To find the first name of the son raised by Mary Grimes, one would have to check the Straton and Moore article. With Mary Grimes Rolfe raising one of the Reid sons, this in effect, made Thomas Rolfe his "Step father". ---- "Step Uncle" might be more proper.I do not know the name of either Mary or her sister before they were married.
The name Read, Reed, Reide, Rhodes, has been spelled many ways.
John Rolfe had a daughter named Dorothy who married the Read son. They have many desc. Who are aware of the relationship. From the names given in the Jane Bolling Clack article, there appears to be a connection. The events I describe fit from about 1675 to 1707 when Thomas Rolfe of North Carolina dies. The case of proving if Pocahontas's son Thomas and the Thomas Rolfe of NC. are one and the same person is not yet proven. Also, it is still open to Argument that Thomas Rolfe had more children than Jane Rolfe Bolling. I have seen one reference that stated that Thomas Rolfe has 11 children. Many books available in the 1870's are destroyed or in private collections.
Perhaps there will be records in the Dorothy Rolfe, Read son's family, to help with this matter.
