Hello again Geoff.First - to your specific questions about Ann Pole's birth, marriage, and death. My information is that she was born c.1674 at Battlehay, near Wiviliscombe, Somersetshire. She died between January 3 and April 14, 1730, in New Hanover Township (formerly Springfield Township), near Burlington, New Jersey - just across the river from Philadelphia. Her husband, Marmaduke Coate, had died earlier, in Burlington, on February 15, 1729.They were both buried in the Friends Burial Ground in Burlington.
You asked if I had more information about descent from them here in America.Well, yes, up to the point where I disproved my own descent from them.At that point I retraced my steps to find my own Coate ancestry - from a cousin of Marmaduke. Then, I continued to research that line.
I must tell you that the Coate/Coatges/Coats line here in America is one of the most difficult I have ever worked on - because of their persistence in using the same names over and over again for their children. One finds many people living in the same area at the same time with the same names, making it almost impossible to sort them out.
I cannot overstate my disappointment in learning that I was not descended from Marmaduke and Ann.I discovered the break in the line here in America about 3 weeks before I was to deliver my book manuscript to the printers for publication. All of a sudden I had to stop everything, make revisions all over the place, even having to revise the index! That took me about two more months of very intense work. But, at least I was able to make the corrections before my book was published.
Geoff, I am of the opinion that you live in Britain, so I am not sure if this information will apply there; but you should know that my book has been placed with the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City, which maintains the finest genealogical library in the world. The book has also been filmed, making it available at any Mormon church through their microfilm loan program. If you would like to review all the information I have collected on the Poles, Plantagenets, and the Coates, you could order a copy of the film. They will send it to the church nearest to you for your review for a very small fee.In America, the fee is only $2.75.They then keep the film for your review for several weeks - which can be extended even further for an additional fee of only $1.00.
There is something else you should know about one of the Pole descendants - you may already know this.Edward and Grace (Jones) had a daughter, Ann, who married Christopher Young. They had son, Thomas, who married Sarah Davis. They had a son named Thomas Young who became the decipherer of the Rosetta Stone!
I urge you to obtain a copy of the film of my book for further reveiw. The name of the book is "Moran Exodus From Offaly."Also - if I am wrong, and you live somewhere here in America - or Ireland, for that matter; if you will tell you where you live, a copy of the book might be in a library near you.I can check and advise.
Good luck with your further research. If I can help in any way, please let me know.
