Thank you for replying and so quickly, especially during the holiday season!
My grandmother was Julia (Torbich)Sakulich Kurachka. Obviously there were probable many spellings of all her names along the way. She was never naturalized.
As a child my mother used the Russian title for cousin in regards to Mary Watral Polk. At some point she became Baba Mary to all of us.
I believe John Polk married Mary Watral in PA. I know they lived there during the 30's and 40's.At some point they did live in CT. It's possible that Baba Mary moved back to PA after John died.
Mary Waltral's father was Andros Watraly by his naturalization papers. Her mother was Maria by his original petition and Mary by his final one.
Baba Mary's obit records her parents as Andrew and Mary Kachur Watral. I fail to find them in any census even though I know for certain they were both in the USA before 1900.
I know that Andros/ Andrew and Mary/Maria Waltral had 4 children born in Scranton, PA by 1915 which he declared in his naturalization request:
Annie born 1909
Nikolas 1911
John 1913
Mary 1915
They had other children as well. Mary born 1915 is my Baba Mary.
As far as I know my Baba Mary Polk only had one child who survives her. His name is Gregory Polk. There may have been more kids but no one in the family can remember.
Hope this all helps and thanks again for trying to help me solve it!
Best,
Marge
Obviously some name variations are occurring.
