Descendants of Thomas Polk of Polk Mtn., NC
Hi, All
We have the results we hoped for from the DNA test on the proven descendant of Thomas Polk of Polk Mtn., NC.Those results just in from FTDNA the last few days. The test confirmed that said Thomas is descended from William Polk/Margaret Taylor. What does this mean for those of you who appear to be descended from William Polk, Jr., son of William Polk/Margaret Taylor, and the long supposed father of this Thomas Polk?It means that you can claim, with a good certainty (not absolute certainty) that your line goes back to the same William Polk/Margaret Taylor. As most of you know, William Polk Jr. is (my opinion), the least documented child of William/Margaret, and we are not sure even who his wife or wives were.Through process of elimination of possible Polks, we can state with a good degree of certainty that William Polk, Jr. was the father of Thomas Polk of Polk Mtn., NC.There is a lot we do not know about William Sr. (Margaret Taylor) and William Jr., this because there are so few records known/found; thus the long quest for DNA testing.
Should we stop now trying to get Polk males of the lines stemming from William Polk, Jr. to be DNA tested?Absolutely not. There are plenty of Polks out there descended from this William Jr. whose descent proof still leaves a lot to be desired. One of the main groups of such descendants are those Polks who settled in southern Missouri, coming from Georgia, descended from William Wesley? Polk (said W W Polk who supposedly is a grandson of William/Margaret).These Polks are part of a group who really, really need some Polk male(s) to step up and be DNA tested.Just because Thomas Polk's descendants can now reasonably state they are descended from William Polk/Margaret Taylor via William Jr., does not mean (my opinion) that these descendants of William Wesley? Polk can do the same. This because the sibling relationship between the said Thomas Polk and W W Polk has not been that well established.Another group of these Polks are those who migrated to Hardin Co., TN., descended from John Polk, 1762-1846, of Crooked Creek, Union Co., NC.There are living Polk male descendants of John Polk of Crooked Creek, I have tracked much of this family line.
Anyone, anytime, questions about this or Polks in general, please contact me, Bill Polk, [email protected]
