I am trying to chase down the elusive Pond/Ponds family of Caswell County, NC, and could use some help from others related to this family.
A close review of the detailed tax lists of Caswell County provides some interesting insight:
Walter Pond(s) who apppeared in the tax lists in 1782, 1783, and 1784, appears to have died between 1785-1786.
The tax list makes it clear that James Pond(s) who married Elizabeth Standbury in 1786 was Walter's son.He continues to appear on the tax lists through 1795, then he "disappears" having presumably then made his move to Sumner Co., TN.
John Pond(s) first appears in Caswell County records (and the tax list) in 1790.He might be the same John Pond who had appeared in the Pittsylvania Co., VA, tax lists from 1782 through 1789, when he abruptly "disappears".John also appears (to me) to have been the father of the Pond(s) who married in Caswell County from 1795 through at least 1807.These (assumed) children were:
1) Walter Pond(s) m. Ellinor Hardegree 28 Jul 1795 2) Betsey Ponds m. Elijah Carman 11 Jul 1797 3) Sally Ponds m. David White 19 Nov 1804 4) Benjamin Pond(s) m. Milly Swann 19 Jan 1807
I know that Elijah and Betsy (Ponds) Carman moved first to Casey Co., KY, and later to Breckinridge Co., KY (she's my ancestress).
I think I know that Benjamin and Milly (Swann) Pond(s) moved to Robertson & Sumner Cos., TN, ca. 1820.
I have not yet been able to pick up the trail of the younger Walter Pond(s) (m. Ellinor Hardigree).Does anyone know where they might have gone?
I am overwhelmed with the number of David Whites in later censuses, and have yet to identify the correct one.Does anyone know what became of David and Sally (Ponds) White?
Does anyone know, or even have a clue, as to what happened to John Pond(s), presumed father of the above children? The last record I have been able to find was dated 1805 in which he sells all his land.He may have died soon thereafter, but I strongly suspect that he moved out of the area with one or more of his children (he still had 2 sons and 3 daughters living with him in the 1800 census, and if I'm correct that Sally and Benjamin were his children, then that still leaves 3 children unaccounted for).Any thoughts, clues or hints as to who these were would be much appreciated.
