Capt. Samuel Pond Montgomery Militia 1781
Captain Samuel Pond lived in Montgomery County NC. served as a Captain under Lt. Col. Thomas Childs and Col. William Lofton1779-1781. Also attached to Col. Thomas Wade (Anson County Regiment) He commanded a company at the battle of Beatties Bridge on 4 August 1781. The Pension application of James Bolton R994 states;"he (Bolton) removed to Montgomery County NC then entered the service as a volunteer under Captain Pond for one year who was killed by the Tories at his own house, he then served as a volunteer under Captain Thomas Jennings & Colonel Thomas Childs in which company he continued in service at different Terms for two years"
The struggle between Whig and Tory was very much contested in Montgomery County during the war. Hope this helps in the recognition of Capt. Samuel Pond.
