As a follow up to my previous post, I can confirm that Henry was born on 10 Dec 1833 in South Hill, Bishops Nympton, Devon, and not 1836 as previously stated
His wife Eliza's maiden name was indeed Bennetts
Henry died 1 Aug 1887.Eliza died 26 Nov 1885
I have also received the following information from another contact - anybody with anything to add to this, please get in touch
Henry was a Sergeant in the Glamorgan Yeomanry and the headstone of the grave was erected to his memory by the Commanding Officer. He is buried in Penllergaer Churchyard in a double grave.
He lived in Ponsford House, Station Road, Cockett, Swansea. He worked in the Mynydd Newydd Colliery in Fforestfach and sometime in the 1860's a disaster occurred in the colliery. There was a news story in the Cambrian Daily Leader concerning Henry rescuing the son who was working with him.Does anybody have a copy of this report, or any further information on this disaster?
After this the mine closed down, Henry went to work on the Penllergaer Estate of Sir John Dilwyn Llewellyn and eventually lived in the Lower Lodge on the Estate.
