I am trying to get a Porsch(e) Forum set up. I know there are several of us out there looking for our families. Maybe if some of you will also request a Porsch(e) forum it will happen. My Wilhelm Frederick Porsch came to US from Germany in 1880's. His parents were Frederick Wilhelm Porsch and Dorothea Steppat and they lived on the border of Germany and Czechoslovakia near Lithuania. Porsch or Porsche is actually a Russian name sometimes spelled Borsche but my family had used the Porsch spelling for a couple hundred years. Wilhelm came to US after completing his education in Germany, because there was a mandatory two years in military for all males and he did not want to spend two years in the German army. He asked permission to visit his cousin in England and got it. So went to England and from there booked passage to New York City. He was trained as a barber so stayed in New York a while then decided to become a COWBOY and went to Texas. He had cousins named Porsch who lived in Texas. From there he decided to go to California and pick up gold off the ground...Lived in San Francisco for a few years where he married my great grandmother and then wanted to go to Washington Territory where he heard there were still "Wild Indians" living. He homesteaded a 40 acre plot on the Nisqually Indian Reservation and raised his family. The Indians were not very wild. I think Grandpa was very disappointed but kept his barber shop and taught a son the Barbering business and the son was in the shop till the day he died in 1973.
