George W. Poss was bornabout 1810. On may 25, 1827, he married Mary Ann Simmons in Fayette Co., Georgia, which later became Fulton Co. He was listed in the census as a "candymaker".They had at least5 children: Willis W., Mary A.,Dockey, America M., and Samantha. I don't know what happened to Mary Poss..but in 1860 he was married to a yournger woman, Martha Jane, who was born about 1840 in Alabama. They had 6 children: Jonah Poss born 1861, Elisabeth.b. about 1863, Adaline b. abt. 1864. Columbus b. abt 1970, Jesse b. 1872 and Julia b. abt. 1876.
By 1880, Martha Jane Poss was a widow living in the "Caseys" area of Fulton Co. (Martha Jane Poss died at 241 Gresham St. in Atlanta, Ga. on May 26, 1937 and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery.)Their son Jonah Poss was my late husband's grandfather. In his mother's pictures there was a picture of a family of 11 children. AT the top it said it was "Daddy's brother".. meaning Jonah's brother. It was identified as "Uncle Bud Poss"... but we have no clue which brother was called "Bud"
