Forgive me again...wow! Caswell? Iredell? You are hitting very close to home for me! My ggrandmother, Hattie Mae, married our ggrandfather, John Adam Hartsell. They all come from about the same area. John Adam's ggggrandfather was given a landgrant to settle what is now Locust in Stanly County (or is that Iredell?) If you look at any phone book for either county you will find hundreds of Hartsells...all connected somehow through ONE common ancestor, JOHN HARTSELL (Johan Hirzel) who settled here back around the same time all your relations had.
I think to be real families came over here as extended and it wasn't uncommon for two cousins to share the same exact name, come through the same port of entry and end up being confused by not only those of us searching for them on our geneaological sites but more painfully real...what would it have been like for nearer relatives to have tracked them down while they were yet living? In a land just being carved out of wilderness? We think we have it bad for having to wait more than a New York minute for an answer?
