Thank you, Bill. The search continues... but even eliminating possibilities is a step forward. I am re-reading Wesley's second spouse's Creek Indian Wars Widow's Pension Applications, and there is mention of the following you may find of interest: "The name of Wesley D. Carter is not found on the rolls of Capt. William POUNCY's Co. Ala. Vols. From May 21, 1836 to July 25, 1836, or from July 4, 1837 to Sept. 10, 1837 or on the roll of Capt. A. S. Justice's from March 23, 1837 to June 23, 1837. The roll of Capt. A.S, Justice's Co. Ala Vols from June 24, 1837 to Oct. 24, 1837 is missing from the files of this office." She never did get approved for a pension. Undoubtedly, this is your William in the 1830 Dale census.
