Hi Dawn Powelson, I had earlier posted a message on the Powelson page regarding my knowledge and interest. As I said I had a grandfather who died at 85 years convinced that he had a Dutch ancestry. I went through many years thinking so too. In any event, I found out several years ago that the Powelsons who were from a place called Ditmarsh (now in Germany)( then an independant place with a Danish king ) traveled from there to Holland in order to get a ship to the new world.Since either they did not have the money or the schedule was not too frequent they had to settle there for 5 years..They got very involved with the Dutch church and several of them later were Bishops in the Dutch church in New Jersey. As I understand it they landed in New Jersey (Hoboken, New JERSEY) I am from that branch, I assume, sinceI was born in NJ as was my father and grandfather etc. I also have some knowledge about the place called Ditmarsh from which they originated. If you are interested I will send it on a fax to you. It was nice hearing from you. When I was working, I used to travel a lot. I frequently used to look at the local telephone book to see if any Powelsons were there. Very seldom did I find any. Now on this site I have learned many exist and they seem to be as inquisitive as I .. ...Best to you .. Bob PowelsonPS If my spelling is bad, please understand, it is really the typing !!
