I am looking for Cynthia A. Powless( a.k.a. Cyntha, Syntha). In the 1900 Census for Raccoon, Marion, IL
Sylvester R. Powless,48 Eunice, 44 John T., 23 Robert J., 21 ("Joseph") Syntha, 17 Suella, 15 Grover C., 14 ("Cleve") Nellie O., 1
My Cynthia married Albert C. Hinman in Marion County, IL April 16, 1899. In 1900, she is living in Clay, IL with Albert and 2 month old daughter, Zetta F.
However, as these Census records often overlap with persons being counted twice, i.e. visiting, etc., I think this is the same girl. Between 1900-1910, there are no other Powless in Marion or Clay county which match. I could find no other Powless marriage records that match.
The girls are the same age, have the same name, both were born in IL to parents born in IL, both have records in the same county, etc. Also, Cynthia Hinman died in Marion County Jan. 17, 1907, Albert and her children are still living in Clay County, IL in 1910. So, I assume my Cyntha was visiting family in Marion when she died.
Sylvester is the only "Head of Household" in Marion 1910, old enough to be her father. I even went so far as to search for every woman in Marion County named these variations of "Cynthia" in 1910, in case Sylvesters daughter had married. None matched!! Do you know anything else that might confirm my guess???
Are you still looking for info regarding Sylvester's pedigree? I found some info about his father and grandfather(Paulus) and their immigration if you are interested. Also, Some trees have the maiden name of Eunice as Casey instead of Warner??
