It is possible that Cordues (Cord/Cordis) was an out of wedlock child of Sarah and Matthew Hall (1865-1939) of Springfield Mo. Matthew was married at the time to a Mary Ellen and had children by her before and after Cordues's birth. This information was give to me by an older generation family member and I have no proof of this. The only person I can find on the 1900 census is Matthew Hall with his wife and children. No records of Sarah, James, Cordues, Pearl, or Dorothy until 1910 (Sarah was on the 1880 Census with her parents, but no other records of her until her marriage to Jame Pratt in 1896 and then none again until the her marriage to Charles (C.H) in 1902 and the 1910 Census). This is the information I have on each:
Name DOB DOD * = verified by gravestone - I have pictures Sarah A.? Swearengin Nov 19, 1877* (MO) Mar 3, 1917* (OK) Charles H. Douglas (m. 1903) 1867* 1920* (OK) James Pratt (m. 1896) Unkown Abt 1898?? (DOD from information in ancestry.com database. No verification) Dorothy Magnolia Pratt (Maggie) Mar 12, 1896 Apr 7, 1986 Pearl O. Pratt 1894 Unknown Cordues Madison Douglas July 17, 1900* (MO) Nov 18, 1981* (OK) Also spelled "Cordis" last name Pratt on the 1910 census with Charles and Sarah. and spelled "Cordwer" on 1930 Census with his wife, Rosa/"Robi" and child, Cordues/"Carlus") Matthew Hall (Sr) Oct 13, 1865* (SC) June 30, 1935* (AR)
Dorothy and Pearl are the only children that I know of that Sarah had before Cordues and I don't know if Charles had any from a previous marriage. Also, Custer Henry (1909-1941) is the only one that I know of after Cordues. Sarah died when he was 7 and Dorothy raised him in California with her husband Benjamin Howard Patterson (1900-1960). Dorothy, Ben, and Custer (Henry) are all buried in California but I have been unable to get a copy of the gravestones. Charles and Sarah lived in Sparks, Oklahoma (South Fox or Sac & Fox) and are buried at Victor Cemetery in Davenport, Ok. Cordues attended Sparks Schools. My mom has a picture of Cordues with Custer (Henry) and another boy who was maybe a few years older than Cordues (maybe another child of Sarah's??), but we don't know who the other boy is. Cordues and Rosa are buried in the New Zion Cemetery in Davenport, OK. Matthew Hall is buried in the EastLawn Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
