My grandmother Presson told me that she had always heard that three brothers landed in Virginia. One moved north. One moved south to Carolina and one stayed in Virginia. Slightly different from the account you heard, but still similar.
It is unfortunate that there were errors and assumptions made when Mary researched the family in North Carolina. My family research overlapped hers and goes back 10 generations to Nicholas.
