Hello Prides –
Louisa Francis Pride was my gr-gr-grandmother.She descends from John Pride, who came to America ca. 1637, settling in Salem, MA.He was a brickmaker.
It was John’s grandson, Joseph, who came to Falmouth, ME, in 1726.He was granted one hundred acres north of the Presumpscot River, which encompased the area of Westbrook, ME, known as Pride’s Corner.My Clark, Eldridge, Hawkes, Walker, Lunt, and Pride families are all from that area.In fact, my grandmother Eldridge and my mother were born in a house at the corner of Brook Street and Rt. 302, the very center of Pride’s Corner.When I was a teenager, my grandmother showed me the grave of Peter Pride just inside a treeline in a field off the road to Falmouth.Though not a direct link, his name shows up often in her genealogical notes.
