IMPORTANT!!! I have begun a Probasco Surname DNA study and am looking for volunteers. The purpose of this study would be to determine if all Probasco families are related by a common ancestor and what Probasco branch of this common ancestor you may belong to.
To begin the study, I need 6 volunteers. I currently have 3 volunteers. The requirements are that you are male, have the surname Probasco and directly descend from a Probasco line with genealogical research confirming at least 3 generations. Participation would cost a minimum of $99 for a 12-marker Y DNA test. There is also a 25-marker Y DNA test for $169, which is more detailed, and would probably be the best test for this study. The choice of test is strictly up to the volunteer. We have one volunteer who has traced his ancestry back to the immigrant, Juriaen Probatski, to use as a baseline. The volunteer could be a brother of a Probasco female, or a husband with the surname Probasco.
There are many Surname DNA studies being conducted, with one of the largest being the Wells DNA Study which was written up in the Wall Street Journal. This study could be especially helpful for those lines that have hit roadblocks in their genealogical research. Also, the company, FamilyTree DNA, that performs these DNA studies has other tests you can order additionally, such as which major population groups you belong to (e.g. Native American, East Asian, Indo-European, sub-Saharan African, etc.). This company only conducts DNA tests for genealogical study and does not do medical or other invasive testing! All results are confidential! To sign up or if you have any questions, please contact me.
To be a part of the study, you will also need to sign a waiver giving me access to your info so I can compile the details for comparison as the study administrator. This could be a groundbreaking study in our Probasco research! For more info about what tests are available and how these tests are conducted, you can check out the web site of FamilyTree DNA .
