James Prothro, second son of Evan, was not a doctor. Someone saw the abbreviation for debit (dr.) and assumed he was a doctor. He was in the timber and mill business as were his brothers and at least one son.
Secondly, James Prothro married Anne Miers/Myers. She was called Anna but signed officially as Anne and early records show her as Anne and one record indicated Nancy. She was a daughter of George Miers/Myers of Jeffries Creek, just south of current Florence, SC.
Anne Prothro did not remarry after her husband, James, died in Chambers County, Alabama a few days before 22 Mar 1838. Anne died there about the middle of July, 1842 as indicated by a voucher for construction for a coffin, dated 18 July 1842. I obtained this information from the Prothro family historian. Both are buried at Antioch Christian Church near Doublehead, Alabama, marked only by iron crosses.
By the way, Anne Prothro was a half sibbling of George Bruce Myers who was father of William C. Myers, the first Sheriff and first state representative of Hart County, GA.
See "Myers and Neighbors of Jeffries Creek, SC" by Neil O. Myers. Any good book store.
