Hi Freda,
It is nice to hear from someone who has gone so far back.John Proudley and Jane Cross were indeed my 4x great grandparents, the intervening generations being:Thomas James Proudley 1805-1879; Joseph Osborne Proudley 1840-1917; Charles Proudley 1859-1912, then my grandmother Charlotte and her brother George, whom Shirley has confirmed is the one who went to Winnipeg.
Do you have anything extra on John Proudley (c1760-1818)?I know of 2 sons and 3 daughters by his first wife, Jane Cross, then 4 daughters by Mary Marshall. My ggg gf, Thomas James Proudley, moved North to Belton in Axholme, but his elder brother John (bap 22 Jan 1801) only got as far as Kirton Lindsey, though he has rather a lot to answer for there. The problem is the gap between John and Jane's marriage in 1792 in South Kelsey and the first Bishop Norton baptism in 1801.They must have been in a different parish but I do not know which one.Tbere could have been 4 or 5 children in that time, and sons could mean connections to even more Lincolshire Proudleys.Like you, I would not be surprised if we are all connected!
Peter
