I grew up in Coatbridge, Scotland and now live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
My grandfather (also James) was at one time a coalminer and later an ironworker (a "puddler").He lived in the Shettleston area near Glasgow, in Coatdyke and in Airdrie. He is buried in New Monkland Cemetry.
I know that he lived in Canada twice, both times in the Hamilton, Ontario area - first in 1913/14 and then in 1919.I believe one of his brothers came to Canada with him in 1913 or 1919 and may have stayed and possibly moved to Michigan - probably Detroit as I think he was also an ironworker.
I have also met David Pryde from Vancouver, British Columbia, who told me that I was the "spitting image" of his grandfather Gilbert Pryde who was a coalminer from Shettleston, Scotland.
I think there is also a branch of the family in and around Dunedin or Wellington, New Zealand and I know that my brother John has started his own branch in Sydney, NSW, Australia.John will be stopping in Canada in November on his way to Scotland.
Any info linking the above branches would be appreciated.
