My husband, Herbert F. Prytherch, Jr. is a descendant of Prytherches from the Isle of Anglesey. His Great Grandfather, Hugh Prytherch emigrated to the US.Here are Hugh's parents and first generation descendants:
1.John Prytherch m 1830 Mary Sarah Hughes (We have seen their graves in a churchyard on Anglesey).John married twice and, we believe, had other children, but we know nothing about them.
2.Son, Hugh Prytherch (1835-1874) m. 1861 Catherine Williams (1834-1919) They emigrated to America.Hugh came first, became established, and sent for Catherine and their three boys. The family left from a little village near Carnaervon where Hugh, a stone mason, had built a church before leaving Wales. (We visited the church and saw the notation in the church record where Catherine had emigrated to America). Hugh died just before his family's ship arrived in the US leaving them alone in a strange English-speaking land, speaking only Welsh. The Welsh-speaking community of New York came to their aid and helped them get established in the new land.Catherine supported the family as a seamstress.
Hugh and Catherine's sons were:
3a. Hugh William Prytherch (1862-1938) m Catherine Morgan (1873-1950)
Hugh and Catherine lived in Binghamton and Utica, NY (where Hugh co-owned department stores) and had 16 children. They sent 13 children to top-notch colleges. The other three died in early childhood. From Hugh and Catherine's union come most of the Prytherches in the US as far as we know. The family stays in contact and reports each new addition.
3b. Robert Prytherch (1864-1926) m 1888 Elizabeth Jones (1869-1953) Robert and Elizabeth had one daughter, who married, but never had any children, so that line died out.
3c. William C. Prytherch (1869-1932 m Ann Davis (1869-1951) William and Ann had two children. One never had children. The other child changed his name to Richardson, the English translation of Prytherch(?), married and had four children. These children all died before 1980.We know nothing about later descendants from the Richardson branch.
If this information is of interest to anyone on the list, my husband has more definitive place names in Wales that he can provide.
