My mom also told me that it was very common to send for relatives and marry thenm in order to get them immigration status. My Grandfather Guiseppe and his wife Teresa were first cousins so their fathers were brothers. Therefore, Nunzio Puleo was my great grandfather and Santo was his brother.
Your husband and my mother are first cousins. I am a bit younger than Sandy but I remember when he and his brother first came from Italy when I was a young teenager. They lived in Queens NY and we would all get together and play cards, both generations. I remember Sandy's mother Vincenza and father Santo very well.
Guiseppe and his father Nunzio lived on 116th St in East Harlem until about 1963 and then when Nonno died, Papa Guiseppe moved in with us for a time and later moved to Brentwood, Long Island with Uncle Solly and his family. All the Puleos of that generation of that family except for my mother all moved to within one block of each other in Brentwood but now Helen lives in Connecticut, Solly in Florida with his son Joseph Puleo, Louis is still in Brentwood and so is Rose, although her husband Frank died some time last year.
You probably know all this but maybe someone else out there is looking for someone too.
