Have been searching everyplace as well as going through all correspondence from years past to find best proof or assumpbtion of what ancestry was for my "Capt." Samuel M. Pullen b. c. 1815, Fredericksburg, VA.Some things I can not get copies of and wondered if you know where to get them, or have them.
1st - I can't get my computer to bring up the "Democratic Reader" off the site it is listed on, so therefore can't get proof of death date for Lindsey Pullen in 1846.
2nd - can't seem to find the "Virginia Herald" one as well that is supposed to have Jesse Pullen's marriage and that he is referred to as "Capt." and that he married dau. of John Shepard and that John Shepard ran a Tavern and gave the contents to Jesse.Do you know the name of the Tavern?Interestingly, my grandfather, William Dean Pullen Jr. told his children that he had an Uncle that had a Tavern. The Jesse in Fredericksburg would be his great uncle.
3rd - Is there proof that Jesse later ran a livery stable? Is there proof of Jesse's death in 1855?Too much coincidence for Lindsey not to be the father of John B., Jesse, Elizabeth m. Charles Wellford Gore and Samuel M.Jessie was grantor to John J. Chew and James Wilkins of Schooner Unity. In 1840 both John B. (in Fredericksburg) and Samuel M. (in Chester, PA) were shown as employed in Navigation Canals, Lakes and Rivers. Samuel M. was known as Capt.He had 2 Sloops which carried stone, brick, sand, plastering lath etc. on Delaware River and Bay. In 1850 he is a Seaman, 1860 a Seaman and son Theodore a Waterman, in 1880 a Sailor. Can't find him in 1870.Why was Jesse called Capt. and where is that shown?
4th - Samuel M. named a son Samuel "L.", which could be "Lindsey".
5th - Samuel M. nameed a son Jesse B., which could be Jesse for his brother "Jesse" and "B." for middle name of his brother John B.Lindsey, who I believe is father of them all m. Judith "B"arrett Dameron. But there could be even more "B" connections.
6th - Does anyone know the names of children of Jonathan Pullen d. 1791 in Lancaster Co.?He married Betty Ann "B"rumley.Interestingly she is daughter of "Samuel" "B"rumley.Could Lindsey/Lindsay Pullen be son of that Jonathan?According to 1810 (Lancaster Co.), 1820, 1830, 1840 (Fredericksburg) Census records, Lindsey, the father of John B., Jesse and Samuel M. was born 1775-1780.I have the inventory papers for Jonathan, but don't know of a Will or anything else that gives names of his children.Do you?He also appears to be too young for the Lindsey that served in RW.
7th - Interestingly, the "B" comes in to play with Jonathan being the son of "B"ryant/Brian Pullen and Mary Ann Ewell and then Mary Ann being the dau. of Charles Ewell and Unknown "B"ertrand.
8th - I can't find Lindsey's son John B. Pullen after 6 Dec 1845.Do you know what happened to him?
It appears that Samuel M. Pullen left Fredericksburg for work in Chester, PA at an early age and married there in 1835.
Hate for this to be so long, but wanted to give the facts I have and find out if you have access to the ones I can't find.
