A possible avenue to pursue. Richard WILLIAM Purser, 1794 NC-aft 1850, Marion Cnty, AL, and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Scott Bentley Lee, abt 1801 GA- 1891 TX, had a son by the name of James Monroe Purser, 1844-1914, marriedin Marshall Cnty, AL to Nancy Susan Hodge, 1844 GA-1883 TX. They had a son named John WILLIAM C. Purser, 1868, Marshall Cnty, AL-1902, Marshall Cnty, AL, married to Sarah C. Berry. I had always thought that Elizabeth and children had gone to TX after the death of Richard, but it seems she moved to Marshall Cnty, AL where her brother lived, and was there up to the 1870 census when James Monroe would have been 26 and must have started a family of his own. Given the occurance of the name "William", and especially "John William", there is a good chance that your "John William Purser" could be a descendant of this line. Marion Cnty and Marshall Cnty are fairly close together up toward the northern end of the state. Richard and his older brother, Moses Purser, 1785, NC- abt 1864, Marion Cnty, AL were the sons of John Purser, 1750-1826, NC.
