I am Gerald Purvis, born in Purvis, MS., 1937.I can take my lineage back to John Purves, who was born in Scotland in 1746 and came to US in 1765, to Charleston,SC and later Edgefield, CO, VA. Served in RW, as a Col. From John and Eliza Ann Prichard were borne six children.John, Jr., 1777 m Elizabeth Lovett, he served in W of 1812, sold land to bro Charles and headed west, Marion Co, Al.and then to Marion Co, MS. (Now Lamar). Nine children, oldest Thomas Melville Purves, b 1820, m Dorthy Abney.He gave land to Southern RR for siding, they spelled it Purvis. From them Oliver Searcy Purvis/Jane Baxter, James Thomas P/Nancy Alice Holcomb, Gaberial Tice P./Nobie Irene Miller, Gerald Purvis. PS, there is a Purvishaugh in Scotland.Hope to hear from you, I would love to go back further but I am stumpted. I am currently near Nashville, TN. James Monroe Purvis was Melville's bro, he and another bro founded Purves, TX, west of Waco.
