John and Alexander Query/Quary were both in Mecklenburg County, N.C. prior to the Revolutionary War.John Query/Quary is said to be of Scottish ancestry. No spouse has been identified. He was a farmer who wa slisted as a corporal in the militia in 1766; founder and elder in Clear Creek Presbyterian (now Philadelphia Presbyterian) church; served at times as juror, tax lister, census taker.Thought to be buried in Union County, NC. He was a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration a year prior to the Declaration of Independence. Alexander Query Married Margaret "Peggy" McCord of PA in Cabarrus County, N.about 1768. He was born in Cabarrus County about 1743.Father's name supposedly was also Alexander. Both an Alexander Query and a John Quary are in the Mecklenburg census for 1790 and there is also a William Quary, Jr, and a William Query, Sr. are also shown in this census. What is the relationship of John and Alexander and were they also among the settlers in N.C. down from near the Penn Colony in PA as Peggy McCord Query was (from near Ft McCord near Hershey)? There were McCleery or McCleary family members who intermarried with McCords. Is McCleary a bastardization of McQuarrie which I'm pretty sure is where Query came from. All these families originated in Scotland, then went to the Plantations in Ulster, then on to the U.S..Sure would like any available assistance! Thanks.
