How wonderful to hear from you.I only know of one other person related to an Ohio Quay/Quae family. It certainly sounds as if we have the same ancestry.James, Francis's brother is my line.James daughter Mattie Barbara Quay md. my gg grandfatherSamuel Jefferson Steele.Their daughter Virginia is my mom's grandmother.
The story is that Samuel was a rowdy "good ole boy" and that the Quay's were very quiet and reserved old fashioned mennonites.
I have that James, Frances and Alexander were all born in Ireland and moved with their father William and mother Mary Edgar to Ohio.I have no information on Mary and her family.
Here is what I have on my Quay line The Quai family were French Hugenots who escaped from Normandy to Scotland due to their religious beliefs.Arriving there, they signed the Scottist Covenant of 1638, thereby becoming Reformed Presbyterians. At that time they dropped the "i" from thier name.In 1652, Comwell sent a whole colony of SCot Covenanter's to Ireland. The Qua family was part of this group where they remained until they came to the United STates of America.
