Dear Pat and all of my Quinlivan relatives,
Long time no hear, no anything.Well I an my cousin Carlene Trouth have been working on our genealogy for the past year or so.It's been lots on fun and great to communicate with a cousin you never knew you had.I'm responding to you Pat Reardon and to all of the Quinlivan families in the Broome County, N.Y. and Susquehanna County in Pennsylvania.I've been bother by the coincedence that 3 to 4 Quinlivan families could live in a 5 mile to 25 mile radius of each other and not be related!!The odds of this are just to perplexing to me so let's get to the answer.I will list all of Quinlivan information that I know of about these 3 - 4 Quinlivan families and let's see if we can put the puzzle together or just see a few more notes in this forum.
My records have it as this:
Daniel Quinlivan buys land in Silver Lake, PA in 1841.No more info on this though I think that Daniel might have move to Lisle, N.Y. latter on.This is about 15 miles away.
Patrick Quinlivan buys land in Silver Lake, PA in 1843. No more info on this though I think this might be your relatives, Pat Reardon.
John & Bridget(Keenan) Quinlivan, my GGGP, move to Forest Lake, PA, on the border of Silver Lake, PA in approx. 1845.
Some of John's neighbors are I believe Pat Reardons relatives, Michael Reardon and Daniel Reardon live right next door on map of Forest Lake, PA, 1870.
The above info was from the Susquehanna County Courthouse,PA, and Susquehanna Historical Society, PA.
Now the 1880 census has the following Quinlivans in Broome County and Susquehanna County
John Quinlivin Forest Lake 69 years old. Br in Ireland
Margaret?? Bridget Quinlivan 65 years old, Br in Ireland (Either the census made a mistake on my GGGM's first name, this is a relative visiting at the time of the census, she's change her name from Bridget to Margaret, or John has two wives and no one knows it??I believe that the Census made a mistake.
Michael Quinlivan 19 years old - My GGF. Br in PA
Mary Quinlivan Binghamton, N.Y. 32 years old, Br in PA or VT?. - John& Bridget's first child living with her sister Eliza Gaffany.
(John & Bridget's children where Mary, Ella, John, Eliza,Catherine died in infancy, Michael, and Annie
Mary Quinlivan, Binghamton, N.Y. 63 years old,Br in Ireland
Nancy Quinilvan, Binghamton, N.Y. 23 years old(Mary's daughter), Br in PA
Edward Quinliven, Maine, N.Y. 56 years old, Br in Ireland
Michael Quinliven, Maine, N.Y.19 years old, Br in N.Y.
James Quinliven, Nanticoke, N.Y.,40 years old, Br in Ireland.
Eliza Quinliven, Naticoke, N.Y., 38 years old, Br in Ireland
Mary9 years old, Br in NY
Maggie7 years old, Br in NY
Edward6 years old, Br in NY
Kate2 years old, Br in NY
John Quinliven, Nanticoke, N.Y., 35 years old, Br in Ireland
Mary Quinliven, Nanticoke, N.Y., 25 years old,Br in NY
Margaret Quinliven, Nanticoke, N.Y., 35 years old, Br in Ireland (Sister in law).
So there we have it.I should look into Chenango County in NY. I believe that Lisle NY is in Chenango county and I might find the Daniel Quinlivan that was at one time a resident of Silver Lake??
All of this data was from the US census 1880, LDS files, Berlin, Vermont.
NOTE: I have pulled a retrieval for NY, PA, New England area in the 1880 census for names of Quinlivan and Quailey. Also pulled data from the 1881 Canada census.I did come across a Jane Quinlivan who lived in the New York city area. She was 25 years old at the time and she served a family with the name Mott.We have relatives with the name Mott.Annie Quinlivan, daughter of John & Bridget Quinlivan married a man named (Boss) Mott. Who knows ah?
So all of you Quinlivans in the Southern Tier of NY and the North East PA, please look through your genealogy info so that this possible puzzle can be put back together.I'm currently trying to locate what town John & Bridget came from in Ireland.
Keep up the good work cousins and love to all of my Quinlivans, your Quinlivans, ..we are all brothers and sisters.
Sincerely, Jim Quinlivan
