There is also a Rocca spelling. My grandfather was born in Napoli, Italy on April 26, 1893.His name was Jacomo (James) Racca. He and his brother Rapheal (Ralph), immigrated to this country in 1907 and 1905 respectively with passport signed by King William of Italy. They both settled in Providence, RI.The Racca's in Arizona are Rapheal's son William and family.
Their lineage dates back to the Roman times. We were always told of their great uncle who settled in Louisiana.
The name is definitely of Italian origin. We also have family that immigrated to Argentina 150 years ago.
Oddly enough, I just communicated with a Gianluca Racca from Northern Italy this morning. He just started to work for our Italian division and I have been receiving his e-mail.
Crossing the mountains to France seems reasonable.I believe we are referring to the same individual.I do know from research a few years ago that the Racca’s in Louisiana have owned a restaurant there for over 100 years. When I read the website, they had a history of the founding Racca who settled in Louisiana. But I can not seem to locate the restaurant website again.
