Lynda,
I have just started recording our family history.Like everyone else, I have started with the most recent. There are a few things that I can tell you.
First, I came across a web-site( http://users.erols.com/someday/Trahan.htmlhttp://users.erols.com/someday/Trahan.html ) by a Steve and Natalie which makes the following listing:
Paul Trahan (Michel, Rene, Jean Charles, Guillaume, Nicolas) was born 1750.He married Marie Duhon.
Children of Paul Trahan and Marie Duhon are:
Marie Regina Trahan, born 1773.She married Jean Michel Trahan.
Rayne Trahan, born 1774.
Paul Hypollite Trahan, born 1776; died 1830.He married Marguerite Montet.
Julienne Trahan, born 1777; died 1831.She married Jean Baptiste Broussard.
*** Rosalie Trahan, born 1779.She married Pierre Louis Henry Racca.
Francoise Trahan, born 1781; died 1854.She married (1) Nicolas Hebert. She married (2) Antoine Rogasson.
Christiana Trahan, born 1783.She married Michel Elander Elinquer.
Pierre Trahan, born 1786.He married Francoise Hargrave.
Marie Madeleine Trahan, born 1787.She married Guillaume Romain Pavie.
Joseph Paul Trahan, born 1790.He married Marie Josephine Perosine Duhon.
Paul Oliver Trahan, born 1792.
Louise Philomene Trahan, born 1794; died 1837.She married Benajat Campbell.
Theotime Trahan, born 1796; died 1797.
And they have another listing for a Laurence Trahan, born 1834; died 1866.He married Marie Honorine Racca
What I do know about the RACCA name is that it does not mean anything in Italian.Which tends to mean that it is a long standing name. The word 'racca' is a derivation of the Old English word 'rakka'( http://www.dartmouth.edu/artsci/engl/engl18/oephono2.htmlhttp://www.dartmouth.edu/artsci/engl/engl18/oephono2.html ), which means 'ship's rigging'.I have came across a listing from 1871 for a Racca Green Knottingley (unusual)--- see: http://www.gtaberner.freeserve.co.uk/thompson.htmhttp://www.gtaberner.freeserve.co.uk/thompson.htm.
My grandfather had told me that one of his ancestors in the Racca lineage, had been knighted by Queen Elisabeth I, daughter of King Henry VIII.We were also told that parts of the family had immigrated to Louisiana, Argentina and the Philippines.
There appears to 190 Raccas listed in Louisiana. There is another 200 throughout the rest of the country. All of the Raccas listed in Rhode Island except one are descendant of my Grandfather and his brother.I lived in Massachusetts for 20 years before moving back to Rhode Island three years ago.Five years ago, only 4 Raccas were listed in the phone book. Two years ago there were 8, now there are 20.These Raccas may come from either Canada, Louisiana or Italy.
The Raccas in Hawaii are descendants from the Racca that had immigrated to the Philippines. At one point my grandfather had said that all of the Racca in the world were related within a couple of generations.I am not sure what he meant by this.Maybe the family name had almost died off and is now being re-generated.
As I started, I have just begun to research the family name RACCA.Please use the information that I have passed as hearsay. As yet I have not corroborated my grandfathers information. What has been irritating is that there is an association out of Australia -- Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Contractors Association (RACCA) which I keep on stumbling across now. They were not listed on web two years ago.

Subject: The Racca family of Louisiana
Edward,
What you have to say is very interesting and I would love to hear more.I
can give you my lineage but I haven't been able to really trace the Racca
side of the family as yet.I plan on going to do research in Louisiana if
I ever get things organized here.
According to my aunt the family line goes something like this:
1. Jean Phillipe Racca b. ca 1756, Brest, France (I do not know if that is
documented or not)For all that I know he traveled to Brest when he was
trying to escape Italy.I understand that they came through the mountains
of Spain.Does that sound right?I am very bad at European history.
Anyway, Jean Phillipe married Marie Fortunee and they had two sons who were
supposed to have come to Louisiana at the same time.I find the records
very confusing and when I think that I am researching two separate people I
find that it is just the same person with a slightly different name.It
makes me crazy..........
So, 2. Louis Henri Racca, b. ca. 1786 in Brest, France married Rosalie
Trahan 9 Sep 1806 in St. Martins Parish, LA ( Rosalie b. 30 April 1780, St
Martins Parish, LA)I don't have his death date but she died 30 Nov 1829
in Lafayette. LA.Her parents were Paul Trahan and Marie Duon/Duhon.
CHILDREN:
a. Marie Virginie Racca b. 27 Jun 1807 d. 12 Aug 1809
b. Paul Louis Racca b. 11 Oct 1808
c. Louis Armand Racca (that was the name of the other brother who
supposedly came to Louisiana with Louis Henri)b. 13 Apr 1810,m.
Marie Gaublet 21 Dec 1829
d, Louise Celena Racca b. 1 Jan 1812m. Thomas Baker 1830.
e. Denis Clairval Racca (my great great grandfather) b. 8 Apr 1814 m.
Marie Melite Trahan 12 Jul 1843.(she was the niece of Denis mother,
Rosalie Trahan and his first cousin) Her parents were Olivier Trahan and
Rosalie Vincent
f.Caroline Racca b. ca 1816
g. Adle Racca b. 29 Sept 1818 m. Octave Benoit
h. Edward Racca b. 1821
i.Hubert Racca b. 8 Nov 1822
It has been quite a while sense I did any digging on the family so I don't
know exactly where my notes are.Do you suppose that are families are
related? My aunt told me that every Racca in the US was related to the
Louisiana Raccas but you have shown me that it is not necessarily so.
I would like to discuss this further with you.You have a much richer
history than I have.I appreciate you sharing it with me.
