Peter G. Race dies Spring 1884 Railroad Accident-Brakeman
"Peter G. Race, a C.M. & St.P. brakeman working on conductor Henry Frank's train was killed at this depot, Thurday afternoon. They were running 3 or 4 box cars on a siding, where another car was standing on the side-track the shock threw him off , and his car not having entirely, stopped one of the wheels ran on his head, crushing it horribly. of course death ensued instantly. His body was taken and carried to his home at LACROSSE,WI. where the funeral took place Saturday,conducted by the Knights of Pythias,of which order deceased was a member. Among the floral offerings was a beautiful pillow of roses by the railroad boys. Mr. Race was 35 years of age and leaves a wife and 2 children." Accident probably occured in Sparta ,Monroe County,WI.I am not related and this is the only info I have now.Ann
