Hello, Racketts!!!
This may be a little rambly, because I get that way when excited and hopefullish....This may end up being just off-the-wall.But I strongly suspect that there may be some wonderful clues here.
I stumbled across the Rackett name in another search stream. And then came here, and found James' post.Let me see if I can be a bit more concise, and make a bit more sense.....
Pronunciation and spelling were so fluid in the old days.
I have been hunting Rocket/Rockett early folks, Massachusets Bay and after. The lines I am aware of are from a Richard Rocket/Rockett immigrant.Prox 1630ish to MA.Although I do not have the specific references at hand myself, those in the know within researchers of these lines know that Richard came here with a brother John. And John went somewhere else, pretty early, and we know not where. He is a total mystery. No death record.Just 'moved and left no forwarding address.'Richard's line is in a bit better shape
Richard's line of Rockets became Rockwoods.(Rocket, Rockud, Rockood, Rockwood----pronunciation shifts, not spelling shifts.)
Hunting for Old Rockwood/Rocket patterns in the 1790 census I stumbled across the cluster of Racket/Racketts in NY................
Rocket, Rahket, Racket???????(pronunciation again)
And that cluster of Racket/Racketts in 1790 had, at least, one John and two more Jonathans.!!!!!!
Did the two brothers, Richard and John/Jonathan come to the Massachusetts Bay Colony early?Richard stayed, and John left and went to Southold??
I just don't know. But I suspect that the Rockets/Rockwoods and the Racketts might need to be talking to each other.....
Does this make any sense??
