Captain William Rackliff (1795-1876) left Portland, Me in late 1849 aboard his two masted schooner The Orotan (may not be spelled right). There were 10 people aboard including his daughter Mary Jane and my great-grandfather Wm. E. Rackliff (he later changed spelling to Rackleff). They arrives in San Francisco in 1850 and from there sailed to the Umpqua River in Southern Oregon. That is in Douglas County.Mary and Frank came by way of Panama a couple of years later. It was later that the older Rackliffs moved to Coos.Wm. E. didn't move there until about 1870.E-mail for an exchange of information.I'm researching Wms mother, Mary Dodge's line at this time.
