I am trying to track down my Radford family roots beyond 1776 which is hard to do when one lives in Australia without access to local church and civic records. It appears from preliminary data I have found from tracing the maternal roots that the “Devon Radfords” have bred like rabbits for a long time in north and central Devon and the name goes back to deRadford and to the early Saxons and possibly the early Scottish Royalty (almost every Brit can possibly trace his/her roots back to them because the Scottish royals also bred like rabbits!!).
My great grandfather was George Radford B: 1827 in Silverton, Devon. He was married to Mary Ann Dart B: abt Aug 1831 in Sampford Brett, Somerset, England. She died Mar 1854 Tiverton, Devon. They had two sons Philip Radford B:1853 and William Radford 1857 – 1938 who was my grandfather.
My great, great grandfather was Thomas Radford B: 1776 in Oakford, Devon. He married Mary ???? B: 1781 in Devon. They had 6 children, Sarah (Radford) Pridham 1811, John Radford 1817, George Radford 1827 (see above), Mary Radford 1832, Ann Radford 1835 and Eliza Radford 1837.
Somewhere I tripped over Isaac Radford as a possible great, great, great grandfather but cannot find the link that led me to that possibility. Any help would be gratefully received.
