I have some info (thanks to Frances and "Pee-Wee" of Louisiana) regarding the Railey's of Georgia. My grandfather was William Doc Railey (wife-Lucy Merle Mann). My great-grandfather was James Lonzo "Lon" Railey (wife-Georgianna Storey). My great-great-grandfather was James Lunsford Railey (wife-Arlee Virginia Lawson). My great-great-great-grandfather was Jefferson Wiley Sr. Railey (wife-Mary Frances Jones). My great-great-great-great-grandfather was John "Jackson" Sr. Railey (wife-Nancy ?). All ten sons of John "Jackson" Sr. Railey fought in the Civil War. According to Arlee West, Arlee Lawson's name (my great-great-grandmother) was named when her Mother wrote to her husband in the Civil War telling him he had a baby girl. The husband told General Lee, who asked to let him name the child. He took Arlington, VA and his own name and came up with Arlee Virginia Lawson.
If these names look familiar, or if you've got different info e-mail me. Would love to talk and compare or share with other Railey's. These are some of the Railey's of Georgia (where I'm from, and am still here). But John "Jackson" Sr. Railey was born in Louisiana. Thanks!
