I am related to Martin Railey. Lineage follows: [Merritt Maupin Railey, Jr. was my father]
Merritt Maupin Railey Jr. 1911 born to Merritt Maupin Railey 1881 and Cecil Johnson. Merritt Maupin Railey 7th of 8 born to William Baxter Railey 1841 and Cornelia Maupin William Baxter Railey 7th of 11 born to Lilburn Rogers Railey 1804 and Lucy Jones Burks Lilburn Rogers Railey 4th of 4 born to Martin Railey 1764 and Elizabeth Mayo Martin Railey 9th of 11 born to John Railey 1721 and Elizabeth Randolph 1727
There seems to be discrepancy of John Railey.According to the book "The Raileys and Kindred Families," John Railey was born in England.pg. 49:"When John Railey landed in America about 1740, his name was John Raleigh. Court records in Virginia, if not destroyed during the Civil War, will show that his name was changed from John Raleigh to John Railey..."
But I have information that he was born in Albemarle, VA.Can someone confirm this? Also, according to www.familysearch.org, John Railey's father was A.M. Railey (Abt. 1700, of Virginia)Does anyone have any information at all, or what the intials are?I've come across a dead end.The only reference I have is from the web (English-America, The Voyages, Vessels, People, & Places) In muster of the inhabitants of Virginia settlements, Feb. 16, 1623/4, there was an Andrew Railey living in James City.I find no other "Railey" or variant form.Unfortunately, no information is given on what ship he arrived on, hence, the dead end.I've looked in all the Ship & Passenger lists on this web page and could not find any reference to Railey, other than Andrew Railey.
