Edmund Muscoe Raines (or Rains) "Sr." married Mary or Elizabeth Hicklin in S.C., whose mother was Sarah or Elizabeth Isbell, daughter or sister of Littleton Isbell.
Henry Isbell & wife Elizabeth Randolph, from VA. & N.C. to S.C., had a son Littleton Randolph Isbell of Chester Co., S.C. The following is from a researcher quoting information from Lyman Draper's manuscripts: "Littleton Isbell in Chester Co., SC came from VA between 1760-70 and was the father of a daughter Elizabeth who married Wm. Hicklin. However, a great grandson of Wm. Hicklin (Jason Calvin Hicklin) transcribed the Bible of his uncle Hugh Hicklin (1810-1895) and grandfather Zachariah Hicklin (1774-1850); this transcription says that Sarah Isbel (d. 1841) was a sister of Littleton Isbell and that her husband was William Hicklin. Thus there is conflicting information regarding who married William Hicklin. Perhaps Elizabeth really was Littleton's daughter and Sarah his sister." (If so, did possibly both of them marry Hicklins?)
Some accounts state that Edward Muscoe Rains Sr. married William Hicklin and Sarah or Elizabeth Isbell's daughter Mary Hicklin while others list her asElizabeth Hicklin Rains. One researcher lists her as Mary Susan. She also had a son named Dabney Rains, according to the Rains family, and she married secondly to George W. Dudley, by whom she had a daughter Mary Ann Dudley born 1808.
Mary Ann Dudley b. 1808, "half sister to Dabney Rains," married Isaac Green Mitchell (1810-1881). Son, Russell Crawford Mitchell (1837-1905) married Deborah Margaret Sweet. Son, Eugene Muse Mitchell m. Mary Isabel Stephens. Daughter, Margaret Mitchell, the author of "Gone With the Wind."
