I am the ggg grandson of David "Dave" Ramey who was born 2-2-1845 in SC/GA and died 1-9-1930 in Pickens County, SC. I believe my David to be the son of a Charles Ramey, born about 1820, in SC/GA (Ramey's owned land on both sides of the Chattooga River which forms the border, so census information conflicts as to birthplace). I have found Charles in the 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1900 censuses. In 1850 he is listed in Rabun County, GA with a wife named Caroline and 6 children. In the 1860 Pickens County (present day Oconee, SC) census he is enumerated with a woman named Elizabeth Keesely and her 3 boys. Caroline is listed a couple of households down with 8 children. I ran across a marriage record for a Charles Ramey and an Elizabeth Keesler of June 23, 1857 in Gilmer County, GA. Could it be that the census taker listed Elizabeth as Keesely in 1860 because she had three young boys with the same surname? I am curious to know what happened here, especially if Charles and Elizabeth K had any children. Any help would be greatly appreciated. firstname.lastname@example.org-Wesley R.
