I have just seen your post and wondered if there is a connection to my husband's family.
Harry Ramsbottom was my husband's grandmother's brother, born 1878 in Keighley, Yorkshire, England emigrated to NZ around 1901. He was a Methodist Minister and once in NZ he changed his name to Harry Ranston.
Harry also had a brother called Joe (one of many brothers and sisters!) who emigrated at the same time and who also changed his name to Joe Ranston.
Harry Ranston was Principal of Trinity College (thoelogical college) in Auckland 1931 - 1940. He died in 1971 at Allendale Rd. Mt. Albert. He married Emily Annie Maslin and had at least 2 daughters.
Joe married Maud ??? and had 3 children - Douglas, Dorothy and Leslie. They lived in Masterton, NZ.
