Just wanted to note that George Ramsbottom, born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, to Arthur and Dorothy Ramsbottom, died yesterday. Peacefully, quickly, in a nursing home. He leaves three children - John (currently in Canada), Peter, and Jayne. And four grandchildren that I know of - Alice, Madeline, Jonathan, and Marilyn.
George moved down to Northampton in the 1930's in search of employment, and lived in Burton Latimer until the early 1980's. He was a master craftsman (leather room foreman) in the shoe-making industry. He served in Athens, Greece, in World War II, in an undefined capacity, and married Betty Jones of Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire, around 1949. He was the oldest of six children.
George was a keen supporter of the Scout movement and attained the rank of County Commissioner.
Another Ramsbottom passes into history. RIP, George.
