I saw a message you posted in reply to another message regarding the RAMSDEN family.I have just knocked down a brick wall in my own research and now have questions.I found out that my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane BARNES, born about 1874-1875, was the daughter of Jane RAMSDEN and William BARNES.
According to the 1881 census, Jane was probably born about 1849-1850 in Bolton. At the time of this census, she was 31 and living with her husband William and 5 children as well as a boarder named Hannah LOWDEN at 60 and 62 Willows in Bolton.
I also found Jane RAMSDEN in the 1891 census. At the time of this census, she was living with her husband and 8 children at 70 Venice or Vernice St. in Bolton. She was 42 at the time.By the time of the 1901 census, Jane's husband, William BARNES, was listed as a widower, living with 5 children and 1 grandson at 8 Melville Street, Bolton. My grandfather, William FF Barnes, was the grandson listed.Jane died sometime between the two census dates.
I have been led to believe that Jane RAMSDEN was the sister of a James RAMSDEN.My James RAMSDEN was married to a Polly HAILWOOD and had a son named Ernest.(Do you know if Polly is a nickname for Mary?)Ernest was born 24 June 1884 in Bolton and immigrated to the US in the early 20th century settling in Massachusetts.
The message I saw mentioned that you know most of the descendants of Jesse and James Ramsden as well as your own great-grandfather Edward. If we have a connection, I would love to hear from you.I have had a very difficult time finding information about this branch of our family. I was delighted the other day when I finally was able to break through the wall that has blocked my research for the past 5 years.Any assistance or guidance you could give me would be most appreciated.
