I am trying to find connections to my Ramsden ancestors. We are descended from George Ramsden who was married to Hannah (maiden name unknown) Ramsden of Keighley, West Riding.George Ramsden, born 1815 probably in the Keighley area, died in December 1859, and was buried in the Parish Church of St, Lukes, East Morton. He had two sons, Samuel (born circa1855) and William (born circa 1857).Following a case of harsh punishment meted out to Samuel by his school authorities, Samuel had to have his leg amputated at Leeds Infirmary (age 7)As a result of this incident the family decided to emigrate to Massachusetts, where they had relatives.Their relative Aunt Polly (possibly Ramsden) lived in Cambridge Mass, in a house overlooking Christ church Churchyard.Their Aunt Polly was a fervent abolitionist and their house was part of the underground railway, that helped escaped slaves find freedom in Canada. The family prospered, Samuel later married Martha Fenton daughter of Elijah Fenton (died 1858) and Alice Fenton (maiden name unknown, died 1865) both of Lawrence, Mass.William Ramsden later became Dean of Tilton Theological College NH (Episcopal) died circa 1926.Samuel became a successful restaurant owner in Cambridge. He owned “Rammy’s” a favorite haunt of Harvard University students in Harvard Square, Cambridge (from 1900-1922).Samuel Ramsden was also an eminent Freemason (32nd degree) Later he came to own a “Camp” on Lake Boone, a 27 acre farm in Groton Mass, and a Summer House in Bar Harbour, Maine.Samuel and Martha had one child, a daughter called Florence Louise Holdsworth Ramsden. She later married Norman Webster Morison of Somerville Mass, (1921) and they had one daughter, my mother Frances Ramsden Morison.Samuel Ramsden lost his fortune in the Stock Market Crash of 1929, he died of injuries sustained in a motor car accident later that year.He had relatives in England, a cousin Laura (possibly Ramsden) with whom they corresponded until the mid-1930’s she was living in Leven, Hull. The connections I am looking are; The children of William Ramsden of Tilton New Hampshire. The antecendents of George Ramsden (1815-1859) from the Keighley area (?) The antecendents of Polly Ramsden (died circa 1875) of Cambridge Mass. The Fenton connection to Elijah (died 1858) and Alice Fenton (died 1865) of Mass.
